When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a fas

When I was a little girl, I dreamed of being a fashion designer and vowed one day I would live in NYC. I remember my Aunt Shirley, the globe trotter photojournalist, sharing stories of photographing NY Fashion Week, and I couldn't get enough. Going to school at the College of Textiles at NCSU was the stepping stone I needed to get my foot in the door. One day, I would be in NYC for Fashion Week! Fast forward an entire lifetime, and instead of pursuing fashion, I followed in Aunty Shirley's footsteps in a different way but still with a camera in hand.⁠

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to go to NYC for Fashion Week, not as a designer but as a photographer. I was able to celebrate with my client, who was walking in a few shows that week and had an opportunity to be featured on a 91-foot-tall billboard in Times Square with a photo I took of him. Funny how dreams manifest in their own special way in their own time. I hope Aunt Shirley would be proud. ❤️⁠

Capturing the same families over the years and wat

Capturing the same families over the years and watching their babies grow has always been one of the things that brings me the most joy in my career. I’ve known this amazing young woman personally for a very long time but was able to capture her for the first time three years ago with a session celebrating her becoming a teenager. Now I blinked and she is turning 16! How can that be? Time please slow down because I feel like senior portraits will now be right around the corner. To all my mommas out there, I promise the one thing you will never regret is having beautiful professional portraits of your babies as they grow. I would be honored to capture these moments for you!

Emma came to the studio to update her digitals for her agency and I absolutely loved working with her. She is incredible at flow posing and I seriously wish I could just work with her all day every day. Plus with a late afternoon session, we were able to take advantage of my favorite times for all-natural light. Gah that window light makes my heart happy!

Sundays at our house are usually a combination of a bit of work, some relaxing, grocery shopping, meal prepping, and of course house cleaning. Today though our typical plans are being thrown out the window to spend with family, and getting ready for my youngest's birthday tomorrow. Now we just have to figure out what cake I'll be baking tomorrow! My oldest child doesn't like things that are *too* sweet, so this almond angel food cake with chocolate ganache and fresh berries was perfect. The birthday girl for tomorrow though - the sweeter the better! What is your favorite type of birthday cake?
