I love Mondays! Especially Mondays when the weather is beautiful like today. The warmer weather means more opportunities to take advantage of the beautiful landscape outside of the studio for sessions. Classic portraits in the studio and a twist of urban modern outside. Fun Fact Friday - Did you know that I used to teach photography at the college level for many years? It's true and man do I miss the classroom. Early on in my photography career, I was obsessed with educating myself and learning everything I could. Being in the classroom allowed me to give back as my early mentors had with me. Some students already came in with vast knowledge, others knew very little, and some didn't really care to be there (my course was a requirement for their major so I totally understood!). By about week 4 or 5 you could really start to see things click and the student's growth was remarkable. My favorite though was the students who had no interest at first, but all of the sudden found a love for the new medium - just by trying something new. Although my days in a formal classroom have passed, I never pass up an opportunity to bring students into the studio. On this occasion, these students were working with a small business to photograph their products for a project in conjunction with WTCC's Small Business Center and the local LAUNCH program (which I also mentor through!) In just a few weeks we will be welcoming students from a local middle school to teach them about entrepreneurship. I can't wait!!⁠

One of the things I love about planning senior ses

One of the things I love about planning senior sessions is finding the perfect location. I always encourage seniors to consider a space that speaks to either who they are now, or one that has been memorable to them growing up. For Jonathan's session, that was a park near his home where he spent a lot of time over the years. The bonus was that it was a nature park that also had a great bridge which gave us an urban vibe all in the same location. I'd call that a win! ⁠

Do you hate being in front of the camera? Guess what? I do too. It can feel awkward, and you don't know what to do. "Where do my hands go? Is my smile too much? Not enough? Does my hair look crazy? Is my shirt lying funny?" Yes, it is completely possible to think about all these things simultaneously. Do you know what I tell my clients? First, relax. Breathe. You aren't supposed to know what to do. It's my job is to guide you. I can see all the things you can't and I will make sure you look ahh-mazing. So, please - don't let feeling awkward in front of the camera keep you from coming to see me. We can be awkward together and have a lot of fun doing it, plus make some pretty amazing portraits together along the way. Put the excuses aside, and just book a session today. I promise you will not regret it.⁠
