It's Friday!! I am so excited for the fall weather

It's Friday!! I am so excited for the fall weather, but I am so sad to see summer go. I love it for so many reasons, but mostly because my ultimate happy place is the ocean and just being in the water. The second my feet hit the sand, my soul is at rest. I live for that first dive through the waves. I swear I had to be a mermaid in a previous life. ⁠

I've spent time each summer on the coast of NC since I was a little girl, and I've always loved watching the surfers near the piers. I dreamed of what it would be like to hop on a board and ride the waves. It was always a "one-day" dream until...my amazing hubby surprised me with surf lessons for my birthday this year. With the help of instructor and owner Jeremy from @surfcitysurfschool, I officially checked learning to surf off my bucket list. I may have come back a bit bloodied and bruised from wiping out more times than I can count, but it was hands down one of the best days of my life. So, if you are heading to Surf City anytime soon, hit them up and grab a lesson with them - you will not regret it! I'm already counting the days until I can be back in the ocean, and maybe this time with a board of my own!⁠

Can we talk about how excited I get when I pitch an idea to one of my awesome clients, and they jump all over it!? I am so thankful for the friendship and support this momma has given me over the years. We usually love utilizing the beautiful outdoors for her family sessions, but when I offered to mix it up for her maternity session with something a bit more glam - she was all over it! Another favorite with the judges, with this momma, and with me!

In this same exact spot, eight years earlier I captured this little family as they were just starting out. Matt and Chelsea snuggled up as we talked about all the plans for their wedding day and their dreams for the future. Time has since gifted them more memories and adventures together but even more special, this sweet little girl! Plus since Mom and Dad were in town, so we said you better get dressed up and come get your portraits taken too! ❤️

As a professional photographer, I am a big believer that continuing to hone my craft comes from the heart and soul I pour into my business each and every day. As an educator, I know that growth also comes from the fact that I will never stop learning; there is something new to learn every day.⁠

I am thrilled that after submitting multiple portraits to The Portrait Masters Image Awards this year, each and every single one of my images was awarded with merits. Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing each of them here to celebrate! The first set was captured with the help of a dear friend and fellow entrepreneur @styled_byserena. I called her and told her I needed to shoot just for me, to allow the creativity to flow without any expectations. We spent the afternoon together creating magic, and oh was it good for the soul! I'd say the result was pretty amazing, and it looks like the judges thought the same!⁠
